About Lomond and Clyde Community Orchestra

Eth0s

The ethos of the orchestra is to make music accessible to anyone and everyone. We do not hold auditions and there is no minimum music exam requirement. To keep costs to members as low as possible we hold fund raising events and try to secure funding from a range of sources. We are able to use the services of a professional conductor and sectional music tutors. The orchestra is run by a committee of volunteers and we are always looking for helpers!

Fees

Our membership fees are adults, £50 per term, juniors, £10 per term. There are reductions for larger family groups with 2 or more children.

Parents

Parents play an important role in supporting the Orchestra. They are welcome to play with us and stay with their chidren during rehearsals. They can have a say in how the Orchestra is run by being on the Committee, and can help  with refreshments at the Saturday rehearsals and at concerts.

Programme

Our playing spans a wide range of music - films, musicals and classical. Our conductor chooses music, either from our own library of scores or from the BBC Ten Pieces web site, which offers enough challenge but is still accessible and enjoyable to play. We are fortunate to have additional specialist tutors who take sectional rehearsals in strings, woodwind, brass and percussion on occassion and regularly provide support for their section during full rehearsals. Each term we put on an end-of-term concert. Family, friends and indeed any member of the public, can attend these concerts. They are very popular locally and we have many loyal supporters.

Christmas brings extra performance opportunities in addition to the end of term concert. We enjoy playing our Christmas repertoire of carols and winter tunes at Helensburgh Winter Festival and sometimes we play at a local garden centre and supermarket .
